DayZ uses BattlEye, a kernel-level anti-cheat, and Valve Anti-Cheat on its servers. Community servers add admins, logs and shared ban lists on top.
In practice: BattlEye bans usually reach your hardware as well as the account. Wait for the Undetected status after a patch, and remember that admins on community servers can read kill logs.
What anti-cheat does DayZ use?

What happens to my cheat when DayZ updates?
The status on the listing switches to Updating as soon as a new Steam build is detected. The seller updates and re-tests the build, and the status returns to Undetected when it is safe to load again.
